In this role you will:

  • Mentor / Coach a small team of Java application engineers, helping grow their expertise and scale their deliveries.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of new features / components / interfaces in our platforms, ensuring the delivery of high-quality code focusing on simplicity, performance, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Take full life-cycle ownership of various key applications and components, hosted on both Public and Private cloud platforms.
  • Help appraise and then deliver new, and creative ideas & technologies to evolve our platforms.

About the team

You would be joining a dynamic international IT team providing change and support for a suite of applications serving SwissRe's Group Finance function. The diverse set of functions and applications, operating in a landscape that never stands still, ensures that no two days are the same and offers opportunities for the keen learner to absorb and get exposed to key financial processes used throughout the world. About You

You are results driven, comfortable with meeting (sometime tight) deadlines and demonstrate a willingness to develop your skills and knowledge about the platforms on you will be working on, both the technical aspects and how they are used by our business partners. You are an energetic and inventive problem solver, yet knowing when to seek help when necessary ready to challenge status quo. You have an accomplished record as a technical leader and can confidently guide technical conversations as well as coach your team.

Finally, you should possess a range of skills and experience that you want to enlarge and improve them.

The essential skills we are looking for include:

  • Professional work experience in development and support of Java applications, at least several of which were gained in a large corporation working with internationally distributed teams
  • Demonstrable cloud native development experience on public cloud infrastructure, Azure preferred
  • Significant working experience with a continuous integration/delivery setup, including the establishment of a test-driven development approach
  • Prior experience in leading / mentoring other technicians, including task distribution, management, and employee-coaching
  • Experience with Spring Framework
  • Relational database experience (DML, DDL, modelling, tuning)
  • Experience using JIRA / Azure DevOps

Additional skills/experience giving you and advantage:

  • Container technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Angular/TypeScript (recent versions)
  • Experience in workflow orchestration and scheduling
  • Understanding of the key ITIL processes of incident, problem and release management
